Neuigkeit Apr 15, 2009 News presentation Furtwängler Box & audite Podcast

In May audite will release a Furtwängler Box: All RIAS-recordings with Wilhelm Furtwängler and the Berlin Philharmonic from 1947 until his death in 1954 on 12 CDs plus Bonus-CD.

This Furtwängler Edition presents live recordings only, some of them are first releases as e. g. Fortner’s Violin Concerto with Gerhard Taschner, Hindemith’s Concerto for Orchestra or Blacher’s Konzertante Musik.
Also, the edition enables you to compare interpretations because some of the works are included as recordings from different years; for example the box begins with Beethoven’s Symphonies No. 6 and No. 5 from 1947 and ends with recordings of these works from 1954.
The Complimentary CD presents previously unreleased live recordings of Furtwängler about music interpretation.
Extensive additional material is also available for download, including historic concert reviews, additional live recordings of Furtwängler and a podcast on the subject "Historic Recordings and Remastering".

Release date in Germany is May 15th. You can look forward to a special musical and historical discovery with Wilhelm Furtwängler and the Berlin Philharmonic in May!

Due to the release of the Furtwängler box at audite the Foundation Berliner Philharmoniker and the Wilhelm-Furtwängler Society hosted a panel discussion on June 17th in the Hermann Wolff Saal of the Philharmonie Berlin with audite's producer Ludger Böckenhoff, Dr. Helge Grünewald as the Berlin Philharrmonic's spokesman and the sound engineer of the Philharmonie Berlin Klaus-Peter Groß.

The motto of the discussion “News from Furtwängler?!” included topics such as the development and the conception of the Furtwängler box, the general handling of historic tape material and technical and esthetical aspects during the process of remastering. The technical possibilities of remastering (and according to this the artistic and historical responsibility of the sound engineer) were documented by commented listening examples.

You can find more information about the panel discussion on the Berliner Philharmoniker’s website.
For further information about remastering we recommend our podcast "Historic Recordings and Remastering" which includes many listening examples from audite’s Furtwängler box.

In the category ‘Historical recording’ the jury awarded exclusively releases by audite: The 13 CD box Edition Wilhelm Furtwängler with all recordings of the Berlin Philharmonic under Furtwängler done by the RIAS in post-war Berlin as well as the Complete RIAS recordings of the violin virtuoso Michael Rabin.

The Quarterly Critics' Choice of the German Record Critics’ Award recommends new releases which merit special attention for the quality of interpretation and for their value to the repertoire.
