With two-, three- and four-choir works by Giovanni Gabrieli and Heinrich Schütz, the Cappella Murensis and the ensemble Les Cornets Noirs make perfect use of the four galleries in the Abbey Church of Muri: voices and instruments blend with the historic Bossart organs to produce a unique sound.

Vier Hände zwei Klaviere - Französische Musik mit dem Klavierduo Mona & Rica Bard
Seit ihrer Kindheit spielen die Schwestern Mona und Rica Bard zusammen Klavier. Während des Musikstudiums sind die beiden Pfälzerinnen zwar eigene Wege gegangen, aber so richtig konnten sie sich nicht voneinander trennen. Also haben sie sich zum "Klavierduo Mona & Rica Bard" zusammengetan. Jetzt haben sie ihre Debüt-CD mit französischer Musik veröffentlicht.

Vier Hände, die auf zwei Klavieren das Terrain französischer Tanz- und Ballettmusik erobern. Das ist der rote Faden, der sich durch die Debüt-CD von Mona und Rica Bard zieht. Passend dazu haben sie auch den Titel für ihr Album ausgewählt: Pas de Deux.

Für ihre Tanzstunde auf den Klaviertasten haben sich Mona und Rica Bard Bravourstücke von vier Franzosen ausgesucht: Maurice Ravel, Georges Bizet, Francis Poulenc und Darius Milhaud, dessen Scaramouche-Suite für eine feurige Eröffnung sorgt. Ruhiger geht es bei Ravels Rhapsodie espagnole zu, einer musikalischen Szenenfolge, in der der Franzose fantasievoll und virtuos seine Vorliebe für spanische Rhythmen und Melodien zum Ausdruck bringt. Verschiedene Tanzformen gibt es auch bei den zwölf entzückenden Miniaturstücken Kinderspiele von George Bizet. Unüberhörbar dreht sich hier ein bunter Kreisel, schwingt eine Schaukel verträumt hin und her oder setzt sich das Pferdekarussell im schnellen 6/8tel Takt in Bewegung. Dagegen setzten Mona und Rica Bard die ernsthafte und richtig ausgewachsene Sonate für zwei Klaviere und die schwelgerische Elegie von Francis Poulenc.

Ihre Pas de Deux-Stücke haben Mona und Rica Bard schon oft im Konzert gespielt. Mit der Studioaufnahme haben sie so lange gewartet, bis auch das kleinste Detail sitzt. Und so überzeugt dieses Album nicht nur durch viel Eleganz und Leichtigkeit, sondern auch durch punktgenaue Perfektion, egal ob technischer, dynamischer oder virtuoser Art. Das, sagt Mona Bard, sei eben so, wenn sich zwei Schwestern für dasselbe Instrument begeistern.

Einer der Hauptvorwürfe der Nachwelt an Felix Mendelssohn lautet, er habe allzu "konservativ" komponiert. Als Beleg für diese Kritik gilt nicht zuletzt sein Quartettzyklus op. 44, der in der Tat häufig den klassischen Formschemata folgt. Dass unter dieser vermeintlich glatten Oberfläche indes sehr wohl das Leben tobt, zeigt das famose Mandelring-Quartett mit dem zweiten Teil seiner Gesamtaufnahme.

Schon der Beginn des op. 44,1 schäumt förmlich über vor Energie: Hier lodert unverkennbar jenes jugendliche Feuer weiter, das der Komponist schon in seinem frühen Oktett entzündete, und das nur von den Interpreten wieder neu entfacht werden muss.

Auch die schwerelose Eleganz Mendelssohns - etwa in den raschen Binnensätzen - ist beim Mandelring-Quartett in den besten Händen. Doch eben nur als eine von vielen Facetten, die bei anderen Ensembles mitunter verloren gehen. Indem die vier Streicher bei den Akzenten und Tremoli kraftvoll und mitunter auch knackig zupacken, geben sie der Musik in manchen Passagen eine schärfere Kontur, um dann wieder die elfenhaften Verwirblungen mit ganz feinem Pinsel nachzuzeichnen.

Das letzte, kurz nach dem Tod der geliebten Schwester Fanny entstandene f-MolI-Quartett schlägt einen ungleich dunkleren Ton an als fast alles, was Mendelssohn geschrieben hat. Wie die Interpreten uns hier am schmerzvoll gehetzten Vorandrängen der Musik teilhaben lassen, ist atemberaubend, nicht nur im Allegro assai.

Klanglich hätte dieses düstere Stück für meinen Geschmack stellenweise sogar noch schroffer in die Saiten gebürstet werden dürfen. Aber das bleibt der einzige Einwand gegen die dichte und sehr eigenständige Interpretation der Mandelrings.

The first volume of their recording series of the Complete Beethoven String Quartets comprises three distinctive works from Beethoven's early, middle and late periods.

​"The ICMA Jury comprising 17 leading media from 13 countries selected 15 CD and DVD productions among a total of 275 nominations. The winning releases, far from being commercial mainstream, are a selection made without any national motive and therefore provide reliable guidance to the global audience. The ICMA also include six Special Awards paying respect to exceptional musicians and producers. All these Awards  are the expression of our jury's aim of making the difference between good and exceptional," said Remy Franck, President of the Jury.

The winners will receive the ICMA Trophies during the annual Award Ceremony taking place this year in Milan, Italy, on March 18. This evening will also include a Gala Concert at the Auditorium, with the participation of the ICMA winners, among them audite artists Les Cornets Noirs (Polychoral Splendour) and clarinetist Laura Ruiz Ferreres (Brahms aud. 91662), and the Orchestra LaVerdi conducted by Principal Conductor John Axelrod. Through the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the concert will be available to radio stations all over the world.

​Ferenc Karl Fricsay was born on August 9th 1914 in Budapest, Austria-Hungary. Being a conductor of Austrian decent he mainly worked in Hungary, Austria and Germany. He made his debut in Germany in 1948 at the Städtische Oper Berlin and with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Berliner Philharmoniker and the RIAS-Symphonie-Orchester. In September 1949 he was appointed General Music Director at the Städtische Oper Berlin and Chief Conductor of the RIAS-Symphonie-Orchester which then was only two years old. He had lasting impact on the orchestra and led the ensemble to international reputation.

Ferenc Fricsay's work with the RIAS-Symphonie-Orchester is documented in numerous prize winning audite productions. From February 20th to March 20th we offer selected recordings at a special anniversary price to private customers.
