The quarterly and annual awards of the German Record Critics' Award are sought-after prices in the German music scene. The winners of the quarterly awards are included in the Quarterly Critics' Choice ("Bestenliste") of the German Record Critics' Award. The lists recommend new releases which merit special attention for the quality of interpretation and for their value to the repertoire. These lists provide a candid picture of new releases which, in the jury's opinion, are of outstanding importance when judged on purely artistic and audiophile grounds.
Statement of the Jury:
„Anmut - dieser Begriff kommt einem sofort in den Sinn, wenn man den historischen Live-Mitschnitt eines Liederabends von Edith Mathis hört. Anmut hat mit Poesie zu tun, mit Natürlichkeit und einer kunstvollen Schlichtheit. Anmut kann aber auch pragmatische Aspekte beinhalten: Edith Mathis, damals, 1975, im Zenit ihres Könnens, hatte sich stets an die Möglichkeiten ihrer Stimme gehalten. Sie ist sich selbst treu geblieben, um als Interpretin vielseitig sein zu können. So trifft sie Schumanns lyrische Innerlichkeit ebenso wie die Drastik der „Dorfszenen" von Bartók, die schwärmerische Gefasstheit von Mozarts „Abendempfindung" ebenso wie die Pointen bei Richard Strauss.
